Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

A quilt-like pattern made up of several Adinkra symbols, but prominently showcasing three: "Gye Nyame" (God), "Nsoroma" (Star), and "Duafe" (Comb). Also included in the pattern is my logo, the "Chiwara" (antelope). The 'adinkra', comes from the Akan people in southeastern Ghana. It is a special cloth worn during the funeral and other funeral activities. This cloth is usually hand painted and hand-embroidered and adorned with one, or more, of 72 kinds of adinkra symbols. These symbols are arranged on the cloth in a specific manner to convey a parting message to the deceased. The transliteration of the word adinkra means, "a message one gives to another when departing."
Walter O. Neal has shown his work throughout the Washington Metropolitan area, and is highly regarded for the unique, creative vision and artistic excellence he brings to his work. His artwork is in the respective collections of Howard University, the Evans-Tibbs Collection, Corcoran Gallery of Art, as well as various organizations and private collections in the U.S., and abroad. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Walter is founder and artistic director of AMKA Graphics Studios, which he founded in 1970, while a student at his alma mater, Howard University.
