This highly stylized, conceptual rendering of 'The Middle Passage' illustrates the forcible passage of African people from Africa to the New World, as part of the Atlantic Slave Trade. The misery, suffering, bondage, and death, wrought by this evil commerce, is symbolized by the trail of blood left by the feeding frenzy of sharks that followed in the ships' wake.
Walter O. Neal has shown his work throughout the Washington Metropolitan area, and is highly regarded for the unique, creative vision and artistic excellence he brings to his work. His artwork is in the respective collections of Howard University, the Evans-Tibbs Collection, Corcoran Gallery of Art, as well as various organizations and private collections in the U.S., and abroad.
