Description
Eli Harris, a guitarist, singer, and songwriter who performed on the streets of Syracuse, New York, often outside the Carrier Dome, NBT Stadium or on downtown streets. He was a well-known, local icon, recognized by many, and according to his fellow musician/friend, Jack Brown of Sophistafunk a local band with a national following, "he was a musician who made the entire city his venue. “Eli should be seen as the architect of the Syracuse sound,” Brown said. “He mixed elements of soul, hip-hop and more, all with a message of unity.”He is truly part of Syracuse history." On April 7. 2020, Mr. Harris, 62, was killed in two back-to-back hit-and-run accidents while riding his bicycle. He leaves behind a daughter. His wife, Mary, predeceased him 10 years prior. For decades, Elijah “Eli” Harris Jr. made the Syracuse street his stage. He played his guitar and sang on Marshall Street before and after games at the Carrier Dome, serenading fans as they passed by.
